Saudi terrorism death toll rises
I was skeptical about conservatives' claims that peace would break out as the result of the invasion of Iraq all along. Now it appears that the recent bombings in Saudi Arabia are claiming an increasing number of lives.
The Saudi authorities say at least 29 people were killed and nearly 200 injured in apparently co-ordinated suicide bomb attacks against Western targets in the capital Riyadh.
Several Americans and a number of other foreigners - including two Filipinos - are believed to be among those who died in the attacks which came only hours before a visit to the city by US Secretary of State Colin Powell.
The latest violence definitely reminds me that the 9/11 terrorists were mainly Saudi, not Iraqi. Yet, if polled I fear most Americans would reveal they don't realize the degree to which the Saudis, who are being handled with kid gloves by the Bush administration, are a greater source of funds and bodies for Al Qaeda than its poorer neighbors.
